The city of Carricall lay on the west coast of the region of Fëaforn. It was the one of the largest cities served by the great trade road that ran from Carricall to Morqhād in the far south-east of Auriin. In its height, Carricall boasted a bustling trade port, lively markets and taverns, and a diverse population among which humans, dwarves, elves and forest gnomes were dominant.
In the year 0 of the seventh era, the Fey Sovereign Carric Thamior died, leaving no heir. Carricall, known as Morrë Carrig ("Carric's Fall", whence "Carricall") in Elvish, was named by its human occupants in Thamior's honour, as an acknowledgement of their alliance with the Elvish leader and their followers.
In the year 1470 Carricall became the seat of Lord Wymar Greycastle and his council, who governed the surrounding province of Foscarden. The city and its province have been protected under the Coeminster Pact since the pact's founding in the year 1431.
