Nuul created Varia to command the plane of death - the Shadowfell - to make sure that its dark energy did not creep into Muana's creation. But an eternity of shepherding this dark energy corrupted Varia. The passionate rage that Muana had expressed in creating the material planes became Varia's intrinsic nature.
