Shimmerswell cave was a natural cave on the northern face of the Pfosmenedh, where the mountain range met the basin of Foscarden. The cave was rich in a silver ore, as well as a number of minerals apparently unique to this small section of the mountain.
The earliest mention of Shimmerswell Cave in the histories appeared in 905, when clans of Dwarves and Gnomes forged the Spellsmith's Bond, allowing them to share its mineral riches. In 913, gnomish mages uncovered the arcane potential of the cave, and constructed the Spell Forge there, with the help of dwarfish smiths. With the completion of the forge, they began to develop the practice of spellforging - the crafting of arcane artifacts such as enchanted jewellery and weapons.
In the year 950, the Bashuuk Horde laid seige to Shimmerswell, and the entract to the cave collapsed in a great spell battle. Given the secrecy the gnomes and dwarves had maintained surrounding the location of the cave, the death of many of their number and the loss of the cave's entrance resulted in the location and potential of Shimmerswell cave being lost to time.
The cave was eventually reclaimed, and the spell forge relit, over 500 years later in 1491. The mine and forge were operated at the hands the Rockseeker Brothers, two Erechai dwarves from Carricall.
